Chiefs vs Panthers: CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Kansas City Chiefs are no strangers to nail-biters this season, but even Patrick Mahomes is hoping for a few easier finishes. The Chiefs secured their fifth walk-off win of the year Sunday, edging out the Carolina Panthers 30-27 with rookie kicker Spencer Shrader nailing a 31-yard field goal as time expired.

“You want blowouts. You want a little more calm in the fourth quarter,” Mahomes admitted after the game. “But these moments prepare you for the playoffs. Still, I’d love to win a game before the very last play.”

The Chiefs, now 10-1, have tied an NFL record with eight one-score wins in their first 11 games. Half of those victories have come down to the final play, with outcomes hinging on everything from blocked kicks to nail-biting field goals.

Sunday’s win highlighted Mahomes’ knack for clutch plays, as he led the Chiefs on a game-winning drive, including a critical 33-yard scramble to set up Shrader’s kick. While Mahomes isn’t known for blazing speed, his timing and field awareness have proven lethal in high-pressure moments.

“He just has an incredible feel for the game,” said head coach Andy Reid. “He knows exactly what the defense is doing and makes plays when it matters most.”

Shrader, a newcomer filling in for injured veteran Harrison Butker, showed nerves of steel with his game-winning kick. “I stayed calm and trusted the team to get me in that position,” Shrader said.

While the Chiefs thrive in tight contests, Mahomes and company wouldn’t mind a few easier Sundays. But with the playoffs looming, their experience in close games might just be their secret weapon.
